The Talking Cello
This unique classical music program for kids, (originally developed by teaching artist Sandy Kiefer) introduces one classroom at a time to the cello as storyteller, as a tale is told first with musical accompaniment and then with the cello as the sole narrator. Students also create their own story as a group which is then performed by Nancy and her cello to their delight. During this interactive program, students use finger math, writing, and drawing skills.

Remote (live online)
School sets up link for remote meeting and makes the artist a co-host. Screen share must be enabled, however please turn off ‘annotation’ feature. Artist may need to sign on 20-30 minutes prior to the meeting to check sound levels. A representative from the school must be on the call to spotlight artist video, facilitate Q+A and mute students as needed. Performance can take place in a classroom or library.
Students should be sitting on the floor or at their cleared desks in chairs.
Students should be at least six feet away from Nancy and the cello.
Arrival time before first performance: 30 minutes
Strike time: 5 minutes
Time needed between performances: 10 minutes
Teachers are expected to model appropriate audience behavior for students.
