Michael Tougias, an NY Times Bestselling author, offers exciting slide lectures based on his books that transport students into adventure. He also provides his audience with tips and motivation involving research, writing and editing. Three of his books have been adapted for both middle readers and pre-middle readers. They include, The Finest Hours (now a Disney movie), A Storm Too Soon (a Scholastic and Junior Literary Guild selection) and Into the Blizzard (the middle reader version of his national bestseller about a sea rescue during the Blizzard of 1978).

Tougias uses humor, candor and edge-of-your-seat storytelling to inspire students to make sound decisions and to excel in their writing projects. Besides the True Rescue Stories, Tougias also offers a presentation on King Philip’s Indian War covering the period from the Mayflower 1620 to the war (1675).

Michael Tougias is a lecturer and award-winning author/co-author of 24 books. His book Fatal Forecast: An Incredible Tale of Disaster and Survival at Sea was praised by the Los Angeles Times as “a breathtaking book – Tougias spins a marvelous and terrifying yarn.” He also co-authored the bestseller, The Finest Hours: The True Story of the Coast Guard’s Most Daring Rescue, now a major motion picture from Disney Films. The author’s other true adventure book, Ten Hours Until Dawn: The True Story of Heroism and Tragedy Aboard the Can Do in the Blizzard of 78, was selected by the American Library Association as one of the “Top Books of the Year” and described as “a white-knuckle read, the best book of its kind”.

Tougias has researched dozens of survival stories and includes them in his lecture for businesses titled, Survival Lessons: Decision-making Under Pressure. On a lighter note, Tougias chronicled his misadventures at his remote cabin in Vermont in his award-winning book, There’s A Porcupine In My Outhouse: Misadventures of a Mountain Man Wanna-be. This book won the Independent Publishers Association Award for the “The Best Nature Book of the Year.” Michael brings books to autograph for sale at his presentations.
